چکیده
Lunar Habitation 1 (LH-1) is a proposed permanent lunar base designed to facilitate astronomical research as well as study the feasibility of human colonization of the Moon. Specific emphasis is placed on the effectiveness of inflatable structures as permanent bases and the practicality of incorporating greenhouses in the base. A location on Malapert Mountain on the lunar south pole is selected as the optimal location for LH-1. A detailed design for the base is created, and stress analyses are conducted to validate the design. The analyses reveal that the structure is able to withstand the forces on it without failing. A preliminary discussion on packaging and transporting the base to the lunar surface is presented, and a coiling method is selected for the inflatable. The specific plants to be grown in the greenhouses are selected based on efforts to maximize nutritional value, and solar and nuclear energy use on the base is described.

Design of Guidance Laws for Lunar Pinpoint Soft Landing
Future lunar missions ask for the capability to perform precise Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) to the selected landing sites on the lunar surface. This paper studies the guidance issues for the lunar pinpoint soft landing problem. The primary contribution of this paper is the design of descent guidance law based on the Pontryagin maximum principle. The simulation shows that the proposed...

In January 2005, President Bush announced the Vision for Space Exploration. This vision involved a progressive expansion of human capabilities beyond Low Earth Orbit beginning with a return to the moon starting no later than 2020. Current design processes utilized to meet this vision employ performance based trade studies to determine the lowest cost, highest reliability solution. In these desi...
متن کاملDeveloping Lunar Access 1 Running head: SPACECRAFT DESIGN REQUIREMENTS VIA CONTENT ANALYSIS Developing Lunar Landing Vehicle Display Requirements through Content Analysis of Apollo Lunar Landing Voice Communications
The lengthy period since the Apollo landings limits present-day engineers attempting to draw from the experiences of veteran Apollo engineers and astronauts in the design of a new lunar lander. In order to circumvent these limitations, content analyses were performed on the voice transcripts of the Apollo lunar landing missions. The analyses highlighted numerous inefficiencies in the design of ...
